Whatnot Trading Card Fees FAQ
How much does Whatnot take from a sale?
Commission ranges from 3.5% to 8% of the item's sale price, depending on your category and your trailing 4-week sales tier. You also pay a payment processing fee of 2.9% + $0.30 on the total order value (item plus shipping plus tax). Use the calculator above for your exact rate. For fixed-price marketplace sales, the TCGplayer fee calculator works the same way.
What are Whatnot's seller fees in 2026?
As of September 21, 2026, Whatnot replaced its flat commission with a tiered structure. Your trailing 4-week sales set your tier (Standard through Tier 6), and each tier has its own rate per category, from 8% down to 3.5% at the highest tiers. Payment processing stays 2.9% + $0.30 on the total order value. Premier Shop sellers get an extra 10% off their tier rate through October 31, 2026.
What is Whatnot's Premier Shop commission rate?
Premier Shop sellers get an extra 10% off their category and tier commission rate through October 31, 2026. For example, a 5% tier rate becomes 4.5%. Status is granted automatically to sellers with at least $50,000 in sales, 250 orders, and 10 shows over the previous 90 days who also meet shipping and fulfillment standards. Payment processing is unchanged at 2.9% + $0.30.
Does Whatnot charge fees on shipping and sales tax?
Partially. Commission applies to the item's final sale price only, excluding shipping and tax, at whatever rate your category and tier set. The 2.9% + $0.30 processing fee applies to the full order total including buyer-paid shipping and sales tax, so higher shipping or tax raises your processing fee, not your commission. eBay, by contrast, charges its Final Value Fee on shipping and tax too, as the eBay fee calculator shows.
Why do many small sales cost more in fees than one big sale?
Whatnot charges fees per transaction, not per shipment. Every checkout pays its own $0.30 flat fee even when purchases bundle into a single box. Fifty $2 sales pay $15.00 in flat fees alone, while one $100 sale pays $0.30. The Stream Mode tab shows this effect across a full show.
Does Whatnot charge tax on its seller fees?
In a small number of US states, yes. Whatnot collects sales tax on its commission in DC, Hawaii, New Mexico, and West Virginia, and on its processing fee in Connecticut, Hawaii, New Mexico, Ohio, South Dakota, Texas, and West Virginia. This calculator does not include tax on fees.
How often does my Whatnot commission rate change?
Your tier resets every 4 weeks based on your trailing sales across all categories combined, then locks in for the next 4-week period. Selling more raises your tier for the next period, not the current one.
If I sell more this period, does my rate drop right away?
No. Your commission rate is locked for the entire current 4-week period once it's set. Crossing into a higher tier partway through a period lowers your rate starting the next period, not immediately.
Will Premier Shop still lower my commission after October 2026?
No. Through October 31, 2026, Premier Shop sellers get an extra 10% off their category and tier rate. Starting November 1, 2026, Premier Shop no longer includes a commission discount, and your rate is set entirely by your category and sales tier. Premier Shop keeps its badge, discoverability, and support benefits either way.
